This beer will help raise desperately needed funds for the fight against hunger, with $1 from every 6-pack sold going to the local food bank in the area in which it was purchased. The idea for Harpoon Grateful Harvest Ale was born out of the relationships the brewery has cultivated with New England food banks throughout the years. The result is a medium-bodied, malty and mildly sweet amber ale with a bready aroma and a subtle cranberry flavor. A traditional top fermenting strain of ale yeast was used to showcase the malt profile and accent the fresh cranberry aroma. Additions of CaraMunich and Dehusked Carafa III malts enhances the beer’s reddish hue and adds a touch of sweetness, while Northern Brewer bittering hops complement the slight cranberry tartness. ![]() The cranberry flavor complements the malty character derived by the combination of Munich and Vienna malts. Now, it is time to enjoy the fruits of our labor – with a pint of Grateful Harvest! It was an awesome experience to be able to see from beginning to end how the cranberries were harvested. We were given waders to wear and large rakes to help gather the cranberries for collection. After spending so much time covered in cranberries, (it’s a messy process!) he and I were curious to see where the cranberries came from, and the folks at AD Makepeace invited us to come down to their bogs in Wareham, MA to check it out. Harpoon Brewer, Steve Theoharides, led the charge in pumping the puree into our tanks. Getting the cranberry puree into this amber ale was no small feat. ![]() Come down and raise a pint with us and help your neighbors at the same time!
